How to Submit to Bold Comics
|
Bold Comics only publishes creator-owned material with the understanding that it will
have a Bold Comics Logo! We want to publish your comic book as part of the Bold Family. Bold Comics does have their
own line of company owned characters but that is not what we want from you. We want your creation and story not
ours. When you're submitting material to us, we expect it to be something original, not something utilizing existing
Bold characters. Bold Comics accepts only your idea for a new comic series or graphic novels!
WE DO NOT ACCEPT SCRIPTS, only fully written and completed illustrated comics.
WE DO ACCEPT inking, penciling, lettering, or coloring samples to keep on file and may refer you to someone
that needs that talent to complete a comic book. You will be notified if we do keep them but if you do not hear
back from us then that means we will not put them in our Freelance Data Base.
The Comics/Graphic Novels Bold publishes are creator owned/creator generated properties and we do not pay page rates,
we pay by percentage of sells. We do require that the inside cover page and inside back page be left blank for advertising. It will be up to you
to create a pay contract with your creative team. Bold will publish your comic on a PRINT on DEMAND (POD) basis
but will have the option to later print the comic as a large press release. Your comic will be sold through the
Bold Online Store and distributed through various channels such as local and national Conventions. It can also
be sold as a WebComic through a pay per view system at Bold Comics.
Your submission should include at least five (5) pages of your best sequential
storytelling art, not just sketches or pin-ups. These pages should demonstrate an
ability to handle a variety of scenes, technology, backgrounds, characters and action.
We want to see your work online. If you do not have your own website, there are a number of free image hosting services like Flickr, DeviantArt, PhotoBucket and others. If your portfolio requires a password, be sure to note what it is.
Also note
- Pencillers, your portfolio should show pencils-only, not inked or colored pages. Make sure the scans are of good enough quality to clearly see your work.
- Inkers, your examples should be black-and-white and include side-by-side comparison with the original pencils.
- Colorists, your portfolio should be based on line-art from multiple artists and show your abilities in a variety of styles.
Tell us what type of book it is, full color, black and white, a mini or on-going series, a standard comic book
or a Graphic Novel. Of course after we look at it we may decide different. Tell us what makes it different from
other comics and who your target audience is.
Show at least FIVE pages
that are fully inked and lettered. If you have more that is fine you may show them all. Five is the least that
we will accept but will accept more than five. Make sure that it is readable and looks professional, we want to
make sure you understand the comic book process.
We publish both color and black and white comics. So if your comic book is in color send it in that way. Be sure
that you list who did the work on your comic such as lettered by, colored by, penciled by, story by and so on.
Include the comic book COVER if you don't have one at least give us a good sketch of one, we want to see if you
understand how a cover is really the selling point of your book, it is what draws that reader to your comic book
and makes him open it. We do not publish any comic with the owners LOGO, the only logo on the cover will be that
of Bold Comics.
You can show character sketches and bios, besides the FIVE required pages if you feel it will help in the presentation.
One important matter is to understand that when we accept your Comic Book to be published we expect the book to
be completed by the team that you have listed! If we see a change in style in the middle of the book we will reject it. If you
change artists anywhere along the line it must be approved once again as mentioned above. We are looking for comics
that are well written and well drawn, by people who are dedicated and can meet deadlines.
You must format your final comic as stated HERE
if it is to be a Print Comic Book
If it is an Online Comic Book you must format it as a 72 dpi Width-800px, Height-1250px .
